CHESS PVP
Chess is a two-player strategy board game that has been played for centuries and is one of the most popular games in the world.
Board & Pieces:
-
Played on an 8×8 checkered board (64 squares, alternating light and dark colors).
-
Each player starts with 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, and 8 pawns.
-
One player controls the white pieces and the other controls the black pieces.
-
-
Objective:
-
The main goal is to checkmate the opponent’s king, meaning the king is under attack (“in check”) and has no legal move to escape.
-
-
Movement:
-
Each type of piece moves in its own unique way:
-
King → one square in any direction.
-
Queen → any number of squares in any direction (vertically, horizontally, diagonally).
-
Rook → straight lines (horizontal or vertical).
-
Bishop → diagonally.
-
Knight → “L” shape (two squares in one direction, then one square perpendicular).
-
Pawn → forward one square (two on its first move), captures diagonally.
-
-
-
Special Rules:
-
Castling (king + rook move together for safety).
-
En passant (special pawn capture).
-
Pawn promotion (a pawn reaching the opposite side can turn into a queen, rook, bishop, or knight).
-
-
Game End:
-
A game can end in checkmate, stalemate, draw by agreement, insufficient material, threefold repetition, or 50-move rule.
-
-
Nature of the Game:
-
Chess is a perfect information, zero-sum game — both players see all possible moves, and one player’s gain is the other’s loss.
-
It requires strategy, tactics, foresight, and planning.
